In March, the sunken hearth in the tearoom will be a Tsurigama.

In March, the kettle hanging over the sunken hearth in the tearoom becomes tsurigama. The kettle is hung from a hirukugi (leech nail) on the ceiling and is hung from the end of a chain. A long, thin kettle is used for tsurigama. This year, we have chosen a tsurukubigama (kettle with a crane’s neck). The top of the kettle is long and thin like the neck of a crane, which somehow gives the kettle a spring-like gentleness. It also reminds me of the hearth in a country house, which makes me happy.
