In December, guests from many countries came to experience the tea ceremony at Kissakoan. We had guests from the U.S., England, France, Italy, Greece , and seven women from Dubai, UAE (a rare occurrence), including their children, to experience the tea ceremony! And our last guests this year were a family from the United States and their friends. We had originally booked a group of 8 people, led by a Japanese mother, but several of the members got sick due to the long trip and in the end, it was just the mother, her son who just graduated from college, and his girlfriend, but they were happy to experience and enjoy the Japanese tea ceremony culture. They enjoyed the experience and were delighted with the Japanese tea ceremony culture. To my surprise, the son’s girlfriend showed me the chawan (tea bowl), chasen(tea wisk), and chashaku(tea scoop) on her phone. She told us that she was making her own matcha at home. She really likes Japanese culture, doesn’t she? All the foreigners who visit Kissakoan tell us, “Japan is a beautiful and wonderful country, and the people are very kind. We should make an effort to keep receiving such compliments from foreigners!
